Run, Dominique, Run

Though I haven’t been posting regularly like I should, TRUST…things are still happening in my world. One new thing that’s happening with me: RUNNING!

Eleven weeks ago while at a running specialty shoe store (I was at the store for work), I saw a sign for a half/full marathon training program. They were having an interest meeting the following week. I attended the interest meeting, and from there, I ended up joining.

I know it’s crazy, but running a marathon has always been on my list of things to do, and I thought this was the perfect time to accomplish that goal.

The training program is 17 weeks and is geared for the St. Jude Race in Memphis, TN. Originally I was going to run the full marathon, BUT…I decided to save my full marathon experience for a local race that is a few months away. (I am still praying on that, lol).

I’m 10 weeks into the training program and last week I participated in my first half marathon!!!

No, it wasn’t the St. Jude Half Marathon. It was a local race that was on our training calendar schedule. I had thought about doing the 10k, but then I thought, “Why not do the half marathon, and it can be like a practice for when I run the St. Jude Race.”

I felt SUPER hyped afterwards! Like WOW….I really did that! 13.1 miles. I survived! AND, I finished in 2 hours and 53 minutes, which was under the 3 hours goal that I had set for myself!

It’s crazy that the training program is already almost over. The time has been flying by. However, for a majority of my time, I’ve been documenting my experience with pictures and videos. I just haven’t really posted anything…until NOW:

Week 3 after a Tuesday night group run. It was raining.
Week 4 (Rehab week) after a Saturday morning group run.
Week 5 after a solo run.
Week 6 after a solo run.
My attempt to capture a deer on my run. I’ve seen deer several times while running, but never manage to get any type of evidence. 🤦🏾‍♀️
Week 7 after a Tuesday night group run.
Week 8 ( Rehab Week) after a Saturday morning “group run.” The first time I ran consistently for an extended amount of time.
Week 9 after a solo run.
